The women in my parents and children have all been quilters, going back three generations to my vast-grandmother. When I was augmenting up, I never understood why they would disburse months under a lamp creating a quilt, one sew at a time. When they were done they would put their beautifully handmade quilt in a unhurt place from home from the sun, dust bunnies, and nasty little hands.
I am older now, and I lastly appreciate the duration it took them to bring into being those quilts. Now I understand that dust, the sun, and my unclean hands would have ruined them. My grandmamma and great-grandmamma are gone, but I am thankful for those memories. They left behind fair quilts that I will someday give to my pl of child and my grandchildren.
